Eating More to Lose Weight

If you think starving yourself is necessary in order to lose weight, then it’s time to rethink everything you know about weight loss.
While it’s true that creating a calorie deficit (burning more calories than you consume) will result in fat loss, this is not a sustainable diet over the long term. You’ll quickly find yourself in a deadly rebound of junk food and binge eating. Any diet that asks you to starve yourself just doesn’t make sense – for your health or for your sanity.
Cutting too many calories from your diet will also result in the loss of lean muscle tissue, which is actually a detriment to your overall fitness and appearance.
Eating More Instead…
Rather than starving yourself, I recommend the opposite approach: eat more!
Believe it or not, the science of weight loss offers a lot more support for this approach than a calorie deficit. If you make the right food choices, you can actually eat more and simultaneously increase your metabolism exponentially – meaning you’ll actually burn more calories!
Eating More to Lose Weight…
The reason for this is that many foods take longer to digest, which means they’ll actually enhance your metabolism during digestion and use up more calories as they pass through your system.
Your top pick for metabolism-boosting foods is protein. Protein is one of the best metabolism-boosting foods out there, and it will also help you pack on and maintain lean muscle mass!
Like I said, it’s all about making smart food choices. In order to eat more and lose weight, it’s also necessary to cut back on carbohydrates (especially sugar, white pastas and white rice). One of the most effective diets for eating more and still losing weight is the ketogenic diet.
A ketogenic diet involved high levels of protein, more liberal amounts of fat (but try to stick with healthy fats like those found in avocadoes), and very few carbohydrates. What happens is a shift in your metabolism, from using carbohydrates for energy to using fat instead. In the end, by shifting this balance, you’ll be able to eat more and lose more weight.

Eating More Protein to Lose Weight…
As I’ve already stated, protein is a key ingredient in any dieting approach that increases your caloric intake. But finding a variety of protein sources isn’t always easy.
If you find it difficult to eat a lot of protein (and let’s face it, it can seem like a challenge for the best of us), or if you’re a vegetarian, check out my article on 8 Foods that Pack on Musclehere. You’ll find some great ideas and options for getting more protein in your diet, which will help you burn more calories!
Eating More at Night…
You heard me right. The whole “no eating before bed” rule? It’s obsolete. Research shows that if you make the right food choices, eating just before bed can actually help keep your metabolism boosted through the night. This will mean better weight loss results!
For more information on eating before bed, including healthy, metabolism-boosting food options, read my article on What to Eat at Night to Lose Weight.
Eating More to Lose Weight – One Last Thing…
And don’t forget – the only way you can successfully lose weight while also eating more is to also exercise on a regular basis. Exercise is necessary to keep you metabolism going, and to burn off some of those extra calories!
